Brazilian niobium and tantalite for the Chinese market
Concentrate assessed before shipment: every lot accompanied by an independent inspection report and the origin documentation the supply chain requires.
Brazil holds most of the world’s niobium supply, and China is a structural buyer of these materials. Tongling Taolian International Trade Co., Ltd. works as atrade agency across that bridge: we sit between the Brazilian supplier and the Chinese buyer, handling documentation, customs clearance and shipment tracking. We are not a mining company.
Niobium and tantalite come from the same ore
They are commonly treated as two separate products. They are not. Columbite and tantalite form a solid solution serieswith the formula (Fe,Mn)(Nb,Ta)₂O₆: the same mineral, with niobium and tantalum occupying the same site in the crystal structure. Wheretantalum dominates it is called tantalite; whereniobium dominates, columbite. Together they are what the market knows as coltan.
In practice this means the ratio between the two elements sets the name, the price and — as you will see below — even the regulatory regime that applies to the cargo. Grade is therefore not a technical footnote: it is the figure that organises the entire operation.
Columbite-tantalite concentrate sample. The dark, metallic grains are the tantalum- and niobium-bearing mineral; the reddish and amber crystals are associated minerals, separated during processing.
Tantalite needs due diligence. Niobium does not.
This distinction causes more rework than any other in this trade, and it is worth understanding before closing a deal.
Tantalite is a tantalum ore — one of the four minerals known as 3TG (tin, tantalum, tungsten and gold). UnderRegulation (EU) 2017/821, in force since 1 January 2021, EU importers of these minerals have a legal duty to carry out supply chain due diligence following the OECD Guidance, to assess risks linked to conflict-affected and high-risk areas, and to report their findings publicly. In the United States, Section 1502 of the Dodd-Frank Act imposes disclosure obligations on SEC-registered companies.
Niobium is not a 3TG mineral and is not subject to that regime.
In practice: if the tantalite feeds a chain that ends in electronics sold in Europe or the United States, origin documentation is not administrative overhead — it is a condition of purchase. An operation set up without that record stalls later, once the cargo has already shipped.
Origin documentation as part of the service
We treat traceability as a deliverable, not an attachment. That means complete origin documentation, an independent inspection report commissioned at loading, and shipment tracking with status information along the route.
Every operation is subject to the customs legislation and export controls in force at origin and destination, which change frequently in this sector.
Why a company from Tongling
Tongling is one of China’s national non-ferrous metals bases, with a complete copper industry ecosystem and access to the Yangtze River for bulk cargo. For ore, that means proximity to processing capacity and efficient outbound logistics — not a brochure argument.

We take your material to Chinese buyers and organise the origin documentation the operation requires — including the chain-of-custody record tantalite needs as a 3TG mineral. A registered, verifiable counterparty on the Chinese side.
Tell us the material, the grade, your monthly capacity and the timeline.
We structure the import from Brazilian origin with complete origin documentation and an independent inspection report at loading — the record your own due diligence will require further down the line.
Tell us the specification, the volume and the final destination of the material.
